I Will Say This, Though...

A certain quiet has fallen over many of the blogs I follow. Everyone is working productively... JB is working on B/X madness of various flavors, Jim is readying for a convention appearance, Alexis continues to hammer away, TS is playing Urutsk... there aren't any lame non-scandals, battles over mechanical minutiae, dramatic exits from the blogosphere, or any of the other assorted recurring drek. Maybe I'm not reading the right blogs (or maybe I am), but from where I sit, a hum of industrious harmony has settled over the chimneys and cobblestones of Blogaria. I suppose that is something to smile about, even if games I discover seem to announce new editions only moments after I pull them off the shelves.

  2. Yeah, I've noticed that too. Far fewer posts, more about peoples' settings and game systems, and my rate of follower increase has slowed right down. Is the OSR blogosphere entering a contemplative and reflective mood after the brash exuberance of the past two years?

  3. It's summertime. I know I'm out riding my Harley as much as possible. :)

  4. I think there's just natural turnover occurring. I try to keep up with newer blogs and there seems to be a lot of quality stuff out there. As you point out, many of the blogs that were very active 2 years ago have gone quiet. Newer blogs like From the Sorcerer's Skull, Telecanter's Receding Rules, Mule Abides, and A Paladin in Citadel (among others) are churning out consistently high quality material.

  5. I know that the summer has kept me from posting anything lately--could be a trend. I've noticed the slow down as well though, but find it welcoming. Rather than blogging, I've been working on my game world in preparation for a new campaign and getting ready to publish a board game with a housemate. Things have gotten busy, not to mention the school and forging that are ongoing chores. I'm sure things will living up when the weather starts to turn and the leaves start to fall.

  6. I will keep doing what I do and providing free material until I stop getting hits on my blog (which haven't decreased any recently). As a matter of fact, Ancient Vaults will be spreading into another area very soon.

As far as controversies; I honestly did not mean to take part in the last one and no matter how nice that guy a few posts up was to me about it, I think I pissed him off.

What keeps people from keeping up with their blogs? I don't know. My mother almost died last summer and wsa in the ICU for over a week, my grandmother had open heart surgery at 93 a month ago and I had my gall bladder removed last Monday. And I keep going and I will. Power outages don't deter me, nor does the hospital or many, many hospital visits, normal gaming and still being active and getting out and about all the time.

  8. For myself, I've been watching a TON of World Cup the last week and a half, and because of the early morning games I've been getting a lot less sleep. Even though I want to blog more, I've been very "low energy"and the energy I have has been going to maintenance and very "low impact" industry (though industriousness IS going on). Maybe others are similarly distracted?
    : )
